The European Union, especially through its recent actions to investigate and sanction major platforms, has sent a clear signal to major platforms: protecting children is non-negotiable. At the level of the Member States, various initiatives have emerged on this subject, such as establishing the age from which minors can access social networks without parental consent, a topic that has also reached the agenda of the Romanian Parliament. This paper proposes an analysis of European and national initiatives, with a focus on France and Romania, underlining the need to coordinate the efforts of the Member States, respect the Commission's responsibility in relation to major platforms and focus on age verification mechanisms and digital education.
